Hungary is a small country but don’t let its size fool you – this little country can fit a lot of crypto ATMs within its borders. As more and more people decide to visit the country, let it be for the simple reason of a weekend getaway or to strike up a business partnership in the budding economy, the opportunities to buy and sell bitcoin in Hungary are also growing with an exceptional pace.
And while the number of shops and restaurants and bars that accept bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is increasing (we have a whole separate article dedicated to just that), the bitcoin ATMs in Hungary might be your safest bet if you are interested in exchanging your bitcoins into our local currency, the Hungarian Forint.
Budapest is not your only option
Most people who decide to visit Hungary tend to think of only staying in Budapest during their trip. As the biggest and most well-known city in the country, it is, of course, understandable. But if you really want to experience the country’s cultural and natural beauty, giving a pass on the countryside is definitely a foolish decision. And if you do decide to visit the countryside and its beautiful and exciting cities such as Szeged, Debrecen or Miskolc, you still don’t have to give up on bitcoin – the ATMs are really everywhere in the country!
And to show you just how widespread the bitcoin ATMs in Hungary are, we decided to compile a list of some of the most frequented ones in the country. So grab your crypto wallets and your bitcoins and off we go – here’s a handy list of the best bitcoin ATMs you don’t want to miss when you’re visiting Hungary.
Budapest: bitcoin ATMs in the capital
If there’s one place that no one skips while they are in Hungary, it is Budapest. (And not only because the overwhelming majority of international flights land in the city.) The city has so much to offer: from the iconic building of the Parliament, through the endless streets filled with museums, restaurants, bars, to the Margaret Island, a gorgeous natural hideaway tucked between Buda and Pest. Budapest is rich in entertainment opportunities and cultural and natural beauties – and it is also the place to be if you are interested in crypto!
Coinmixed, for instance, has two of its very own bitcoin ATMs in the city. One is located in Lurdy House, a shopping mall frequently visited by tourists and locals alike. The ATM itself can be found by the gym on the ground floor – and it is open 24/7! (So if anyone fancies a midnight bitcoin run, feel free to visit the ATM in the gym.)
The other Coinmixed ATM can be found in a lovely dessert shop called the Wiener Szalon. This ATM also offers the option to buy bitcoin, ethereum and litecoin for forint – and you can even sell your bitcoin and litecoin here. The ATM is available during the opening hours of the cake shop: from 8 AM to 8 PM on weekdays and from 9 AM to 8 PM on weekends.
If you’d like to combine your bitcoin transactions with some mouthwatering burgers, the bitcoin ATM at Zing Burger is going to be your new favorite dining experience.
The ever-growing number of bitcoin ATMs in Hungary
Just a couple months ago, the Hungarian cryptocurrency news site, BitcoinBazis also announced that they are placing 9 new bitcoin ATMs all over the country. With this, not only Budapest managed to snag a couple new ATMs for itself – but several Hungarian towns got their very first ATMs to finally join the revolution of money. There are now towns with a population as little as 30 000 proudly offering the chance to buy and sell bitcoin!
In Budapest as of now, they have started to operate 3 brand new bitcoin ATMs. One is located in Aznap Bar, an idyllic bar in the heart of the city where the available range of cryptocurrencies to buy and sell is only challenged by their even bigger selection of wines and rosés. Another great location with a bitcoin ATM is the store of First Phone – located in one of the busiest squares of Budapest, the Oktogon. Their unequaled selection of phones and accessories is worthy of a visit on its own – the added bonus of buying and selling bitcoin and ethereum at a low exchange rate (6% of every transaction, no matter the cryptocurrency) is just the cherry on top.
But as we’ve mentioned before, Hungary is not only made up of Budapest – and more and more people and businesses start to realize this, too. So after our little Budapest tour of bitcoin ATMs, let’s take a look at some other locations in Hungary. You will not be disappointed with the selection, trust us on this.
Debrecen is the second largest city in the country – while still being only about a tenth of the size of Budapest. Regardless of that, the city itself is an exciting and always buzzing place, largely due to the significant amount of university students living there attending the prestigious University of Debrecen. So while to city itself is often overlooked in the shadow of Budapest, more and more people are starting to recognize the true potential of the city. And now even the revolution of money has reached the town – a bitcoin ATM started its operation just a couple months ago. The bitcoin ATM itself is located in the store of First Phone in the shopping mall Debrecen Plaza, just a couple hundred meters away from the Main Square and the iconic Great Church.
You can buy bitcoin, litecoin and ethereum and sell bitcoin and litecoin using the ATM with a 6% transaction fee.
Szeged, Miskolc and others: bitcoin ATMs in Hungary
The same bitcoin ATMs can also be found in the cities of Szeged (Szeged Etterem and Haunted House) and Gyöngyös. But if you are looking for an even more relaxing weekend getaway that also offers the chance to buy and sell bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, make sure to check out the bitcoin ATMs in the Aphrodite Wellness Hotel in Zalakaros or the one in Aurora Hotel in Miskolc.
This list is naturally an incomplete one as we only decided to showcase our favorite ATMs. If you are interested in an even bigger selection of ATMs, make sure to check out coinatmradar.com where you can find even more information about the Hungarian crypto options.
Whichever cryptocurrency ATM you end up choosing, you’re going to end up with a great deal. And not just crypto-wise… your stay in Hungary is guaranteed to be a success no matter where you’re buying your bitcoins. So pack your suitcases and hop on the plane – the money revolution is waiting for you in Hungary!
